Privacy & Data Notice

Crime map data
The crime map uses open data published by UK police forces via data.police.uk. We do not collect or store the crime records shown on the map. Search requests are sent directly from your browser to the official public API when direct mode is enabled.
Reported crime locations are anonymised by the police and are approximate, not exact addresses. Data is usually updated monthly and may lag current events by 2–3 months.
Location permission
If you choose "Use Current Location", your browser may ask for location access. Coordinates are used only to run your crime search and are not stored on our servers in direct API mode.
Optional backend features
News, media upload, and face search are optional features that may be disabled remotely. When enabled, those features require a backend and may process content you submit.
Remote configuration
Feature availability is controlled through Firebase Remote Config so we can enable or disable parts of the app without redeploying the website.
Licence
Crime data is reused under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
